il progetto site specific Can’t see the forest for the trees commissionato per la mostra Tree Time al Muse di Trento, è stato realizzato tra il 2029 e il 2020 in differenti tappe dalle Dolomiti alla Sicilia per lo studio dei differenti ambienti e la realizzazione di video e opere sul campo. Nell’installazione site specific, la foresta di adesivo catarifrangente creata dall’artista presenta un”immagine di emergenza riferita alle abetaie rase al suolo dalla tempesta Vaia che ha colpito il Nord Italia qualche anno fa. Can’t see the forest for the trees è un’installazione multimediale di 5 video loop in tablet, sculture in terracotta e opere su carta. Queste ultime rappresentano la corteccia di alberi in via di estinzione, nonché specie vegetali autoctone e alloctone che in natura competono per nuovi spazi causa cambiamento climatico. I video sono dedicati a diverse tematiche ambientali: scioglimento dei ghiaccia, agricoltura intensiva, interviste a direttori di parchi nazionali su temi forestali e la tempesta Vaia. Attraverso una panoramica globale, sottolineando la necessità di comprendere che il mondo è un enorme, unico organismo vivente dove tutti gli elementi sono collegati e dipendenti gli uni dagli altri, l’artista evidenzia il rapporto tra impatto antropico e paesaggi contaminati, competizione tra specie autoctone e specie non autoctone, surriscaldamento terrestre e scioglimento dei ghiacciai, invitandoci a riflettere sui concetti di interferenza e biodiversità, con quest’ultima che rappresenta un fattore essenziale per ecosistemi ben bilanciati.
Can’t see the forest for the trees is a site specific project commisioned for the exhibition Tree Time at Muse Museum Trento. The project has been developed between 2019 and 2020 in different steps from Dolomiti Mountains to Sicily to be able to study the environments, working on videos and artworks in each place. In this site specific installation, the forest made on reflective tape created by the artist represents an emergency image referring to the fir trees forest that has been devastated by Vaia storm in Northern Italy few years ago. Can’t see the forest for the trees is a multimedia installation made out of 5 loop videos on tablet, terracotta sculptures and works on paper. Terracotta sculptures and drawings represent the bark of endangered trees, as well as native and alien plant species that in nature compete for new spaces due to climate change. Short films are dedicated to different environmental issues: melting glaciers, intensive agriculture, interviews to some national park directors and the Vaia storm. Through a global overview, emphasizing the need to understand that the world is a huge, unique living organism where all the elements are connected and dependent on each other, the artist highlights the relationship between anthropogenic impact and contaminated landscapes, competition between native species and non-native species, global warming and melting glaciers, inviting us to reflect on the concepts of interference and biodiversity, which represents an essential factor for well-balanced ecosystems.
