RESTORING THE WORLD è un progetto sviluppato tra il 2012 e 2014 dedicato all’incendio doloso che ha arso la Pineta di Lido di Dante e Classe, Parco Nazionale del Delta del Po, bene UNESCO, ambiente naturalisticamente speciale e paesaggio culturale. Nominato Lido di Dante perché il poeta passò parte della sua vita in queste zone del Ravennate e probabilmente vi scisse anche una parte della Divina Commedia. Questo luogo è un ambiente fragile e raro per la sua biodiversità, perché molti uccelli migrano qui per riprodursi in questo microclima particolare, è l’estuario del fiume Bevano nel Mar Adriatico, e ci sono ordini di dune su cui crescono piante molto specifiche proprie di questi ambienti tra pineta e mare. Il concetto principale del progetto è prendersi cura del paesaggio attraverso un’azione rigenerativa. I fruitori vengono coinvolti in una performance pubblica divenendo protagonisti attivi per ristabilire una connessione con il luogo dell’incendio in un’azione collettiva. L’artista ha lavorato attraverso un processo rigenerativo di cura, producendo immagini dai resti della pineta dopo l’incendio: il carbone diventa strumento per prendere lo stampo di cortecce di alberi arsi, in un trittico che rimanda alle pale d’altare. Le sculture sono il risultato di restauri applicati ai di legni dalle forme antropomorfe rimasti dall’incendio. La performance OPERAZIONE CAMPO BASE (tributo a Joseph Beuys) ha collaborato con il corpo forestale e la protezione civile per coinvolgere i fruitori in un’azione collettiva nei confronti della foresta. Infine viene realizzato il film ARSA, un video doppio canale, volando sopra la riserva naturale con un ultraleggero per mostrare quanto grande fosse la lacuna lasciata dall’incendio e poi filmando durante la performance dentro la tenda di Operazione Campo Base.

RESTORING THE WORLD is a project developed between 2012 and 2014 dedicated to the arson that burned part of the pinewood forest near Ravenna: Pineta di Lido di Dante e Classe, The Po Delta National Park, a UNESCO asset, special natural environment and cultural landscape. Named Lido di Dante because the poet spent part of his life in these areas of Ravenna and probably he wrote here a part of the Divina Commedia. This place is a fragile and rare environment for its biodiversity, many birds migrate here because this particular microclimate, it is the estuary of Bevano river in the Adriatic Sea, and there are sand dunes on which very specific plants grow on, typical of these environments between pinewood forest and the sea. The main concept of the project is to take care of the landscape through a regenerative action. Viewers are involved in a public performance titled OPERAZIONE CAMPO BASE becoming active protagonists to re-establish a connection with the burnt pinewood. Giorgia Severi worked through a regenerative process of care, producing images from the rests of the pine forest: the coal becomes a tool and a color to take the mold-rubbing of tree barks left, and it becomes a triptych reminiscent of an altarpiece. Sculptures are the result of restorations applied to the woods with anthropomorphic shapes left over from the fire. The performance OPERAZIONE CAMPO BASE (tribute to Joseph Beuys) collaborated with the Forestry Corps and the Civil Protection to involve viewers in a collective action. Finally, the FILM ARSA a double channel video, was made flying over the National Park to show the gap left by the fire and then filming during the performance inside the tent.
