If the Climax is the condition of highest balance and development of an ecosystem, comprending also the human being, aren’t we at the involution point because the general climax has already been reachead and so we are in a path of inevitable congenital degeneration of which we are naturally a part?

For the series Climate Change, Giorgia Severi observes the venetian lagoon, the Laurisilva forest and other environments, by relating past present and future starting from the meaning of climax ( from greek “scala” ladder), which is the highest evolution stage of an ecosystem due to a self-perpetuating ecological succession over the time, thanks to environment’s balance from which has been generated and continue to evolve.

To give an image to the environmental gaps created by climate change, pollution, global warming, anthropic action and rising waters like Venice case, Giorgia Severi uses the weaving to erase or to interfere into the mane picture with another one, picturing gapses like what is getting lost in the environment.

Se il climax è la condizione di massimo equilibrio e crescita di un ecosistema, che quindi comprende anche l’essere umano, non siamo forse al punto di involuzione poiché il climax generale é già stato raggiunto e quindi siamo in un percorso di inevitabile degenerazione congenita di cui facciamo naturalmente parte?

Per la serie Climate Change , Giorgia Severi osserva l’ambiente lagunare veneziano, la foresta Laurisilva e altri luoghi, mettendo in relazione passato presente e futuro partendo dal significato di climax (dal greco κλίμαξ, “scala”), ossia lo stadio più alto dell’evoluzione di un ecosistema dovuto ad una successione ecologica autoperpetuatasi nel tempo grazie all’equilibrio degli ambienti da cui si è generato e ha continuato ad evolvere.

Per dare un’immagine a quelle che sono le lacune che si vengono a creare nell’ecosistema a causa del cambiamento climatico, inquinamento, surriscaldamento terrestre azione antropica e innalzamento delle acque come nel caso di Venezia, l’artista utilizza l’intreccio di due immagini, dove quella principale viene gradualmente cancellata o disturbata da una seconda immagine. In questo modo le cancellature emulano ciò che si sta perdendo nel paesaggio.
